I'll keep checking the horizon

No hon, one on each foot.

Not much going on right now. Trying to find time to work on my artwork, and sorta failing. I'm in this awful cycle where I don't want to leave Current Workplace until I have something purposeful (like art school) to leave for, I can't apply for art school until I have more of a portfolio, and I don't have enough time to work on a portfolio while I'm working 40 hrs a week at Current Workplace. I've already done the math and I can't afford to cut my hours; moving home isn't a practical option for a number of reasons.

If anyone has any genius epiphanies, do let me know.

Honestly, I think if I start cutting out social things from my weekend, I'll find enough time. I just need to be more self-disciplined. Incidentally, Monday was my four year anniversary at Workplace [confetti]. I never thought I'd be here this long; don't I get to graduate yet?

  1. I had the same problem my first year after grad school, when I knew I needed to write and I just couldn't manage to do it; of course for me, it wasn't a matter of time, it was a matter of inclination.

I mean, I don't know how you work on art, if you need a dedicated block of time or if you can do a little here and there, but if you could just get up 15 or 30 minutes earlier in the morning and do a little, it adds up. Or stay up, or work during lunch, or whatever. I do that sometimes when I'm having a hard time concentrating on writing; I'll just try to do a few lines of dialogue, not even a whole scene, just enough that I can say I wrote something, and eventually, there's something there.

  2. Should we arrange for an art/writing date? I'm going to come home next weekend, so we could have a weekly scheduled time. I'd promise not to be distracting.

    Plus, cute kitty!

  3. If I'm already working on a project, I can work on it a bit here and a bit there, but I also need larger chunks of time to develop ideas and really get into it. And yeah, it's partly a matter of inclination for me, too. ;)

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY art/writing date!!!

  4. I'm laughing at the thought of Holly getting up earlier. Just teasing! I love you!
